Chai Ling is a Chinese human rights activist and former student leader during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing, China. She played a prominent role in organizing and leading the student movement, calling for democratic reforms and an end to government corruption. After the Chinese government cracked down on the protests, Chai Ling was placed on the government's most-wanted list and was forced to go into hiding.
She eventually escaped to the United States, where she continued her activism and advocacy work for human rights in China. Chai Ling co-founded the organization All Girls Allowed, which aims to raise awareness about the forced abortions and gendercide that occur in China as a result of the country's one-child policy.
Chai Ling has received several awards for her advocacy work, including the Spirit of Anne Frank Award, the Princeton in Asia Prize, and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice's International Courage Award. She continues to be a vocal advocate for human rights, democracy, and freedom in China.
